MAINTENANCE
Tufted rugs are made to last – but a little care goes a long way. From regular cleaning to mindful handling, the right maintenance will keep your rug looking fresh, soft and vibrant. Whether it’s a fluffy wall piece or a functional floor rug, follow these simple tips to protect your tufted treasure for the long run.
GENERAL RUG CARE
Fluffing
Fluffing is a natural occurrence, especially with plush rugs. Over time, it will settle with regular brushing and vacuuming.
Loose tufts
It’s typical for fluffy pieces to have tufts that stick out. Trim these with scissors instead of pulling them to prevent damaging the rug.
Depressed areas
Heavy furniture can flatten the fibers and create indentations. To prevent this, occasionally move your rug and rearrange your furniture. Rotating the rug also ensures even exposure to sunlight and wear.
MAINTENANCE TIPS
- Brush or vacuum regularly (twice a week is recommended)
- Spilled something? Dab the stain immediately with a colorless cloth
- Avoid harsh chemicals for stain removal
- Keep your rug out of damp environments
- Never soak the rug in water—this weakens the textile glue
- Do not dry clean your rug
Vacuuming
If your vacuum has adjustable suction, set it to the lowest level. Move the vacuum slowly over each area to remove dust, dirt, and hair effectively
Removing stains
- For dry stains, gently scrape off the residue and vacuum the area
- For wet stains, use a colorless cloth or paper towel to blot the stain. Apply lukewarm water with a sponge or cloth, then blot with a dry cloth. Repeat until the stain fades. Do not soak the rug, as this may loosen the fibers
- For greasy or stubborn stains, use a pH-neutral, chlorine-free cleaner and follow the above steps
- When in doubt, have your rug professionally cleaned—but avoid chemical cleaning methods
